I have tried my best to get pecan trees started but I have had no luck at all.

I planted my first 2 around 11 or 12 years ago. An Elliot and a Cape Fear. We soon after got hit with a hailstorm and all of my trees took a beating. The Cape Fear didn't make it. 3 Years ago the Elliot started blooming and I got 2 or 3 pecans the last 2 years. This year I have around 20. I think it was last spring or 2 falls ago I planted 2 pollinators for it...a Desireable and a Mayhan. The Desireable didn't make it but the Mayhan has been growing like crazy. So all in all I'm batting 50% at the moment and may throw a couple more in the ground yet. I like'em..trees are pretty..and the pecans off of the Elliot are good stuff. We'll see what happens when my Mayhan starts to bloom in a few years. I couldn't tell you where the closest pecan tree is to me but the Elliot is getting a little from somewhere. I prefer fall plantings but planting is sometimes based on availability etc,..just my .02. You've probably forgot more about farming and growing than I'll ever know...but that's my experience so far with the pecans ;)

That is one wicked looking little green monster that you have captured in the photo. Must be a model for some of the creature s in these sci fi movies !! nice pic
