Carnivore. I’d like to see some pictures prior to picking next time you gather some. I’m sure I walk by edible shrooms all the time and just have no idea what I’m seeing. I hate to waste free groceries.

Here is an old thread with some pics https://www.kentuckyhunting.net/threads/fresh-oyster-shrooms.156801/page-3
Easy pickins tonight... These were growing on a log in my yard. I could have let them grow another couple days but wanted a snack tonight. I have spotted these from the base (base is more common) all the way to 30ft high in a dead tree. Or on stumps and downed trees and limbs.[IMG][IMG]

I think I saw some of those last weekend checking deer cameras. Are there other varieties that are similar, yet dangerous?

No they are distinct. They got gills on the bottom (see shroom outlined in red) and are smooth on top. These are super fresh and likely popped in the last day or two. They get much bigger and a slightly grey or yellowish when less fresh but i still eat them unless they are too far gone. They will have small beetles and bugs but they wash off.

Yeah they’d probably double in size in a couple days but they were pristine. I asked myself if i should wait but self kept sayin “frying pan!”

You made the right choice this time of year. With cooler, damp weather in November, I may have waited a little longer. Good call!
