Id argue for a brand new one..of my choice. They willingly sold you a gun that should have never been sold. But thats just me. The trade is a sweet looking gun though
i like my weatherby vanguard 1. Same rifle.
Is the trigger good? (i dropped in a timney
I love the bolt on mine and can have a round chambered right as i re-aquire my target.
What caliber is that gun? I also have some options on vanguards
30-06, i have a fluted bolt but other than that mine is the same as the howa. (I added a b&c medalist stock and a timney trigger) I would work the bolt and pull the triggers on your options. Find the one with the best trigger and a smooth action and buy it.
Maybe I just don't see it but what caliber was the original rifle??. This new one seems a good deal, but do you want a .308?
It seems they are offering you a better rifle than the one you bought first.
I would probably take them up on the trade, if I like this one with the HS Precision stock.
It was a .270 I had initially picked that caliber because my future FIL has reloading dies for it. When I was picking out this first rifle I was open to 7mm-08, .270 and .308. And maybe 6.5 Creedmoor but didn’t wanna jump on that bandwagon just yet. I would like to stick with 270 but that HS precision stock on the 308 seems like a good upgrade. I just hope the barrels not shot out or something like that. That’s probably not even possible but hopefully those so-called gunsmiths At Cabela’s can scope the barrel and give me an idea but I will also be looking at some of the other options when I get in store. Howa has offered to send me a new firing pin but I told the boys at Cabela’s I was going to milk this for everything they had.
I don't want to get in one of those Calibre discussions, but unless you are going real long, you will be ok with the .308. I like that rifle with the HS stock. and no way the barrel is toast. If the trigger is good enough and you are happy, then i had rather have it.
Make sure you check that it has a working firing pin in it!
And if your FFIL reloads, I'm sure he'd appreciate a set of .308 dies and some .308 bullets for Christmas. Maybe throw in a can of powder and some primers too and he'll be able to hook you up for a long time.
At Cabela’s right now making the switch, after a little research I was hoping to find another Howa or Vanguard in 7mm-08. They don’t have any here and I don’t got all day so that .308 Is coming home, I’m satisfied it is a brand new rifle with upgraded stock I can’t ask for much more. And the first thing I did was check the firing pin
I like the trigger. Breaks clean.. Had them put gauge on it, right at 4lbs Maybe a little heavier than Some would like but I can roll with it. Overall very happy can’t wait to throw some lead downrange
You'll have to post a picture up when you get that viper mounted on it. Good looking gun.
Just be glad you found this stuff out before Deer Gun Season!
Would have been shooting at a booner with no firing pin.
