My new Howa 1500 has been sitting in the box for the last month. Got my scope mounted last weekend and bi-pod on but just haven’t had to time to shoot. Yesterday afternoon some friends came over and we rigged up a steel plate across the pond so they could shoot their rifles.

After a while I decided to go in the house and get my gun and at least get on paper, I’m all set up squeezing the trigger and “click”. Cycle the bolt check the safety and attempt to make another shot..... “click”
There was no marking on the primers so we proceed to take the bolt out and did not appear to have a firing pin. After some YouTube was able to disassemble bolt and gain access to firing pin were You could clearly see a sheared off tip. I always heard that Howa test fired every rifle before it left the factory. This gun came from Cabela’s gun library sold as a blemished rifle due to small rub mark on the barrel, Because of that Cabela’s does not offer any warranty as all guns are sold as is no returns so not so sure I’ll be able to get any help from Cabela’s on this issue. Could this be a dry firing issue?

Howa has lifetime warranty and I’m sure I can get it replaced it’s just going to be a damn hassle. Just felt like venting

Dam that sucks! Just be glad you found out now and not a month or so later.
That's not how you want a new gun purchase to go.
Hope you get it worked out.

Id be concerned something else caused the pin to break, rather than assume it was a pin with a flaw. As you said i imagine howa will take care of the issue. As for deals in general, you are going to win some and lose on others.

I would call Howa tomorrow and tell them about your problem. They should be able to correct it for you. Sounds like your rifle has a broken firing pin or maybe it was removed and not replaced.

It's not a dry firing issue. Nothing about dry firing would cause the pin tip to shear.

Not just you brother. Ordered a new cz bobwhite double barrel shotgun back around last of March, came with a trigger pull of about 50 or 60 pounds! Missed Turkey season, but they sent me a new shotgun. It sucks, but you've got some time before rifle season. Nothing is like it used to be!

50 or 60 was a little exaggerated, but it was the hardest trigger I've ever pulled. Even with it being a shotgun, there was no certainty where you were going to hit. They took care of it with new gun. Never said what caused it. You would think they would have caught it during testing.

Update. Got off the phone with legacy who imports Howa rifles. Surprise surprise, after producing the serial number it turns out that particular gun was a show/exposition gun that has been carted around the country the past couple of years. They intentionally broke the firing pin off to permanently disable it. Not only did buying the blemish gun from Cabela’s have zero return policy but the fact it was a show gun Howa discontinued the warranty so I am up a creek with no paddle’s. Now how in the flying hell it was sent to Cabela’s and sold as a blemished barrel gun is beyond me. The woman at Legacy told me they would send me a free firing pin which kind of calmed me down for a second but after the phone call with them I rapidly called Cabela’s and rained Down 10 kinds of hell. Everybody at Cabela’s agreed that rifle should’ve never been sold and I should be receiving a phone call tomorrow from regional firearm manager to correct this issue. Hopefully a complete swap out maybe they throw in a HS precision stock I don’t know but this issue has had me up-and-down all day and I’m fired up !!!!!!!! (Actually pretty calm now happy that Cabela’s realize the problem and will correct it). Just venting again everybody have a great day

Man that sucks. Sounds about like my luck on most things. Hopefully both companies make things right.

    Very interesting.
I fault Cabelas for having their head up their ass and selling a rifle that would not fire.

I wouldn't stop, Cabela's new they sold you a piece of shi$, that's unexceptable And a liability issue. I would demand a new rifle

This gun shows pre owned but doesn’t seem hurt. It has the upgraded stock I wanted and the manager at Cabela’s has been pretty cool and working with me. Will be even trade.. Not the same caliber but... what do y’all think?
