20190505_101517-747x1328.jpg 20190505_105939-747x1328.jpg This morning me and my dad started out in a blind. Not long after fly down I started feeling bad so I told dad I was gonna slip out. Soon as I stepped out of the blind 4 jakes took off about 100 yards away. Well I made it back to the truck and there was 1 tom with e or 4 hens in a neighboring field. I drove by a farm we have had a lot of luck on in years past and noticed 2 toms by there self. I debated on going back and telling dad but I decided to wait because the 1 I saw on the neighboring was heading towards him. Well when he got done I went back and told him about the other birds and he wanted to go after them, it was still raining but it wasn't pouring. When we pulled back up to park there was a tom with some hens down on a point in the field. There is a tree at the end of the point that we have killed more turkeys setting under it than any 1 place on any of the farms we hunt. We decided to try and slip in the back side of the ridge and get up the that tree and set up. We make it just over the hill from the tree and we start crawling up the back side of the point. We're about 6 feet from the tree and I hear him drumming, I told dad and he kept crawling and kept the tree between him and where we thought the bird was. He made it up there and could see it's tail fan strutting around. He was able to get his gun up before the bird came on up on the point. He comes up and a crow flys over and he gobbles less than 30 yards. The bird finally turns around and gives dad a good shot and he shoots. I stand up, I see a hen run out in front of us and some jakes around beside us but I didn't hear any flopping and I asked did you get him. He said i don't know. I step to the side and I could see him laying there. He never flopped the first time, he weighted 20 pounds 10 ounces, had a 10 in beard and 1 in spurs. On the way back dad looked at me and said that was a fun hunt, neither of us are real big about just setting in a blind but this year it seems like most of our hunts we have had rain and most of the birds we have seen have been on farms that is really hard to hunt without behind up in the field so we have spent alot of time in the blind. His spurs was the whiteist spurs I ever seen they had black tips but that was the only black on them. For prob the last 15 years dad has always tagged put but at least he didn't get skunked this year. I'm already looking forward to next year.
