Nothing gets my heart going like those dang birds. First shot one pitched off into my lap at about 7 yards flat missed no excuse. Second one he had me twisted all up. As a right handed shooter those right side approaching birds give me issues.
Yeah they are fun, i miss being able to chase them, i just sit in the blind anymore, its nothing like runnin to them, but better than setting on the couch, i got after one several years ago, first gobble was at 5.20 am, i killed him about 5 pm, he answered me all day long, but was always ahead of me, never laid eyes on him all day till i killed him, he was following 14 hens, a little while, before i killed him, i figured out they were going right back to where they roosted, after a all day adventure, i killed him less than a hundred yards, from where he first gobbled on the roost that morning.

I grew up on public land chasing gobbles. I’ve been blessed now 2 have a lot of land I can roam all day going after different birds. And you’re so correct on them making a big ole circle my birds roost about the same 3 places on a 450 acre farm every single year.

Turkey hunt, offshore fish when I can bum a ride, get back into the gym to burn off lbs accumulated to stay warm during deer season, put a little more effort I back into work, spend time with my youngest daughter that doesn’t hunt with me usually something involving horses. Bought some land last spring so lots to do out there. Keep plenty busy.

Just trying to keep something goin here, Deer season out, folks usually get pretty scarce on here, lot go over to the turkey forum. As for me, i try to turkey hunt a little, fish a lot, make fishing lights for bobbers and read a little, usually something online, or watch something on YouTube i have always had a interest in older sniper guns, and the snipers mission, look at old deer and gun pics, that about sums up my life, Whats every one else do in the off season or after turkey season
,
Morel hunting in the spring, ginseng in the fall, gardening, and reloading and shooting of course.

I used everything from .22, 17HM2, 350l, 9mm, shotgun to bow and .270. Mostly 17, 204 and .223 though. It helps our farm, cows, other farmers and is fun. We don’t take it serious. No lead sleds here.

(Finally got level for that 275yd g-piggy)

not to derail your awesome thread Grago.
Awesome I love it! I need to get a scope for my AR. Not many hogs around here but plenty of yotes!

I love scouting this time of year. No bugs and no sweating lol.
Planning to check out some new public up in Indiana.
Just bought a motor for my John boat so might try to shoot some geese.
Then shed season on our farm here in ky. Prolly get out a least 2 or 3 times hopefully.
Then It’ll be scouting turkeys. Hoping to use my boat this year to get on some un pressured birds.
I am hitting Missouri next fall, not far from Iowa. Hunting last 10 days of October. Planning to get out there a couple times before it warms up to log some miles.
I am also trying to get a lease in Indiana, so I check Basecamp like twice a day lol.

From now till March is the hardest time of the year for me. Bored as all get out work and workout try and get those legs ready for April. Last opening day I logged 6.2 miles and missed 2 birds before 5 pm lol.
I try and compensate those turkey coming in. Say bird it coming in at 12 o clock. I position my body about 2 o clock. Anything from 4 o clock to 8 o clock counter clockwise is a dead turkey. Now them ones thst come in straight behind u is a diff story.

During the Winter months, I usually reload, target practice, work in my woods, and study the various species of Wildlife. Also making sure the habitat for game species is kept up-to-date. Other than the above mentioned, I enjoy building small miniature log cabins, messing around on the computer, looking-up things and doing a little shopping online.

Not much time off for me. My son starts trap shooting in February and we do that 2-3 days per week until October. I also coach our county 4-H Shooting Sports rifle and trap teams that start up in April. Somewhere in between all that, I like to turkey hunt, fish, and spend time out on the lake pontooning. I just purchased a camper so this year I have to fit in some camping trips. Oh, and we coyote hunt some.
