Let him lay 2 hours after dark to give him plenty of time. Coyotes paid me back from taking out one of their numbers this morning by getting to my buck before I got back. Not sure if 12 or 13 scoreble points yet. Took me hours to get him out by myself. Finally able to post. Congrats to everyone else who also put meat in the freezer. God is good.

Got in the stand just after 6AM on Saturday. See a doe run by and a nice buck chase after her about 30min after I'm situated. Thinking it's gonna be a good day. (FYI...I've never had a good day deer hunting yet. Zero success for my lifetime.) Not less than an hour later a little 3x3 sneaks up under the stand. Can't get a good shot off so I try to spook him out back into the field. No good. He jumps back into the underbrush. Few hours go by and we see nothing. Decide to get out of the stand and meet up with some other fellas hunting a lease nearby and have some breakfast. They haven't had any luck either. Great tailgate breakfast and quality conversation was had by all! Now back into the stand for round two. After a few hours of nothing but squirrels, birds, and playing on the phone; a big ol doe decides to pop up out of nowhere. Broadside and staring right at me. I pray she doesn't take off while I get the rifle sighted in on her. She doesn't and I hit her square in the shoulder at about 75yds with my .308. She spins back and runs into the trees and drops about 15yds from where I shot her. First successful deer hunt in the books!

Congrats!!! Nice doe & lots of good meat! p.s. I took my buck with a .308 this year & I swear the more I shoot that caliber, the better I like it for deer hunting!
