Coywolf perhaps? Never seen a coyote that dark, and I've shot a bunch in IL, mostly while hunting pheasants.
Actually had a setter point one once; thought it was a rooster stuck in some heavy brush beaten down by a snow drift. Out popped a fair size dog. I shot with my 20g just behind its noggin'. Shot never even left the shot cup. Damend thing did a somersault and was deader than a stone.

That is a dandy.I think I would need a taxidermist for a black one.I killed two ugly ones in rifle season.I mean regular yotes not black

I saw a black coyote on a walk to the outhouse at deer camp. Of course by the time I ran back to the cabin and grabbed my gun, it was long gone

I missed a small gray one in October looked same colors as a gray squirrel . But his red buddy didn't get so luckey swacker broad head split him open.

My nephew may be the luckiest kid ever. Last year, second day rifle season a black one came out and he killed it. 3 minutes later another black one came out and he killed it. 5 minutes later and us still celebrating, an 8pt walks out and he killed it lol. One of the best hunts of my life.

Last week, while Squirrel Hunting, I shot this Coyote with my CZ-452 .22 LR. I shot it in the neck, but put a couple more shot in him for insurance, making sure he was dead.

I got 2 black ones on trail cam regularly. In a pack of about 7 yotes. And a third one that is almost black.
