Icing up west side of Jonathan Creek Bridge.
Blood River(Wildcat) ramp was getting solid but still soft enough to back/push out. We could have used a fisherman to push the geese, Several ducks in a non duck spot but the geese sat on the ice and gave us the finger!
I remember seeing cars out on a bay in Kentucky Lake one year when I was a kid.
You gotta be a few cards short of a full deck to be out on the water in this weather. I dont care if you are fishing or duck hunting.
That is the truth
I have always liked the extremes... I launched at the same spot in 09 or so (September Goose) when Hurricane Ike(IIRC) came through with 70 mph winds. Surprisingly no big waves only a light chop... Wind was strong enough to make Cherokee Sport Goose decoys spin in the wind. Changed the depth of the water over six inches as the storm came through. West wind blew the water out of the bay. Decoys were sitting on muddy ground. As it passed and the backside was blowing out of the East it pushed the water back into the bay up to our layout blinds.
Been on the big muddy on a 5* day.
Had the boat 14 miles out to the "Tower" off Virginia Beach.
I am fairly confidant in the boat and my skills.
Hell, we were out yesterday on the Big O. Wasn't bad at all, and kilt plenty divers. Very likely to be on a tributary in the AM.
If you're skeered, stay at the house. I prefer it
You guys have a ball and be safe
So am I but I’ve been out there enough to know that the unexpected can amd will happen at any given moment. Screw a bunch of rough weather on a boat any boat of any size.
Wind and waves at KY lake can get right real quick! Been there and dun that
Yep. North or south, 10+ mph winds it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. East west winds aren’t as bad except when you come across the opening of a bay. Friend of mine flipped his bass boat trying to go from the east bank back to blood river in 25mph west winds. I’ve been in waves that were a legitimate 6ft. Very scary in a 18ft boat. Was between blood and Paris on the east bank, rode the trough across the main channel and ran back on plane behind the islands running 50+ through the crappie stakes
Saw Jesus 3 times trying to get back to Barkley from Paris once. My dad had a place at South Bass on Erie for 20 years and I have been on some scary stuff up there. While Ky Lake is no comparison it does deserve your utmost respect and it will ruin your day.
Oh yeah. I’ve been scared a time or two. You definitely have to respect the lake or you will break equipment on your boat or get hurt.
You must know of a season I’m missing but hell more power to ya if your kill’in um blast on.
I think he’s in Florida hunting okeechobee but idk
