Decided to start night season this eve after work. Went to a farm about 5 miles from home and crossed field to a tree line rise with 180 degree view. Twilight came but with enough light for the AR I started calling. Saw movement to my right about 200 yards off which was about 6 does. I watched them thinking this was a bad sign it was safe from coyotes. I started playing a fox distress low and picked it up. The deer didn't seem bothered but then halted and turned back from whence they came. To my left I saw movement about 150 yards off, a coyote. I switched to baby cottontail and increased volume. Now there were three coyotes. They always just seem to appear from nowhere.Coming on low down but at a pace,I shot at about 50 yards and one was down, the others spun and ran, I got AR up and fired 4 shots with one spinning. The other got educated. All in all after a long week this was therapy.
