Next season, how to deal with neighbor's dogs

I quit trying to talk with the owners of loose running dog behind my house. They will do nothing to help correct the problem.

I'm in the same boat as you i hunt 15 aceras behind my house that belongs to my neighbors. When I start seeing dogs running the woods during squirrel hunting season. I start with taking out the 12 gage with the none lethal rubber balls. Just shooting at the dog will scare the bejeezous out of them and if you do get a hit it just stings them. Usually they will get the warning and avoid that place. But I will take it past the point you won't go. After 3 strikes the 22LR starts doing the talking for me.

If they’re really the cause of your deer issues then you will have to kill the dogs. If you get caught or neighbor finds out you will have holy hell to pay. Unfortunately you already advertise on this site so if the dogs disappear you’ll be first suspect. Also, If the dogs just disappear the neighbor will just go get new ones. You’re completely screwed. Talking to neighbor won’t do any good. You’re in Kentucky not New York. Dogs run free. Find a new spot. Thousands and thousands of acres in Kentucky.

I have to agree.

If somebody killed my dog ... because he was being a dog ... it would be time for them to move somewhere I can't find them.

This is a true statement. Maybe the best thing to do is take a lien out against their property for the cost damages suffered.

Good luck!! people suck (I know I'm one) but I don't let my dogs run amuck anytime especially deer season - my neighbors
start running their dog's opening day of deer season (every year) I've asked nice as pie, posted signs, been friendly -
(didn't work) - I've got pics on game cams of them rabbit hunting my place and running their dogs (NO CRAP !!) I'm gonna use the pics for Christmas cards next season (LoL) - my place is a natural funnel also. this year I dumped ungodly amounts of feed / corn on my trails and around the pond (ungodly amounts) a day before season - then I stayed out of my woods during the modern gun (I sacrificed the gun season) I like to bow hunt anyways- there was so many deer hanging out at my place it was crazy - id see 8 - 9 at any given time during the season I watched the bucks run the does from my back porch all over my property , it was great !!!! especially when one of the neighbors was complaining they saw was no deer around and wondered why they only seen a few does and no bucks - IT WAS PRICELESS!!!!

I do not condone killing dogs - I would HATE to have to do that - if a dog was in my barn or yard killin my chickens or livestock then YES a bullet ..... it is ky and people own dogs (myself included) but common sensed people don't let nuisance dogs run free .....

you shouldn't have to find a new spot - you should be able to hunt YOUR property - dogs shouldn't run free during season NOT on other people's property - I love my dog and she never runs free during season....

Had the same thing happen 5 years ago - talked to the people and they said they'd take care of it. Of course they didn't, so I called the dog pound - the guy came out the next day, caught all 3 dogs, and haven't seen them on our place since. I have, however, seen 2 of them on chains in the neighbor's yard. I hate that for the dog, but putting thousands of dollars into food plots etc... makes me less sensitive to a dog's well being.

If that's where the goalposts are, so be it. Wouldn't argue anything under such conditions.

I completely sympathize with the OP (believe it or not). Killing their pets is not the answer though.

Wasn't blessed with grandkids. My pup's probably a better companion anyway. My opinion is derived from that position only. If someone (anyone) kills my dog I'm going to take it very personal.

I won't kill a dog unless it poses a threat or inflicts harm. I love dogs.
