Feels like October. Wish I was tagged out so I could be crappie fishing today and tomorrow. Had a lot of day time activity from December 10-17th. I’ve got one last push in me to try and get it done. Either had camera issues or no deer over the last 3 days on the spot in set up today. Going to give it this week and then move on to the next outdoor activity. Would love to start 2023 off with my first bow buck.

Anyone else out?

The twin grandsons decided not to hunt this afternoon even after I sent them pics of the 7 bucks that showed up yesterday afternoon. 4 during legal light and 3 really good ones just after legal light. All of these showed within easy bow range of the blind. Pretty clear that they don’t take it nearly as serious as I do. So I grabbed my compound and climbed a tree @ 3:50 for a 2 hour hunt.

Mistakes were made. Missed a chip shot at 22 yards. Clipped a limb about 5 yards shy of a doe. Haven’t done that in a long time. Going to be hard to sleep now. At least it was a clean miss. Not the ‘23 start I was looking for.

Just had a stud 8 at 40. Biggest deer I’ve ever had in bow range. He was on a line right to where I wanted him. Had 4 doe In between him and I. One of them got down wind and to close. Had too many eyes to get drawn back. She blew and they all spooked out of range. So much excitement and adrenaline flipped right over to defeat and disappointment. Still a very cool experience but man that hurt.

I went yesterday evening. Took compound bow. Perfect wind and cloud cover. At prime time wind picked up, could barely keep my hood on. Saw nothing.
