I moved to Hazard, KY last August because I was accepted into UK’s Physical Therapy program. I’m a long time hunter, but with my intense school schedule, I don’t have time to go back home and hunt. I also don’t have any time or places to hunt in Perry county. But, I’m trying to make the best of it and I would really like to see some wild elk while I’m living in EKY. I know this is a long shot and I may have to do a great deal of searching. But, any tips on where to find them on public land would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats on the PT program. I'm a graduate from the same program in 2006. There are plenty of WMA areas within 15-30 minutes of travel if you are living in town there that have huntable deer populations so hunting doesn't have to fall to the way side. As far as elk in the wild, good luck, not many roaming around. Talk to folks around town though they may be able to steer you in the right direction.

You’re in Hazard? Early morning or late evening drive the roads toward Lost Mtn. You might have a chance.
