Using my Christmas gift cards. An Okuma "Avenger" ABF-500, an ultralight spinning reel. A friend has a few. What really caught my eye was the bait minder feature when trout fishing. An UglyStik 5 1/2 foot light action rod with some 8lb FireLine. The line really is thin. I've always used monofilament...

Trout stocking is several weeks away. Might have to target some sauger in the Ohio river or something.

Have you used that line before? I have an ultra light setup with 10# super slick braid and I can’t hardly cast anything light with it because it digs in on itself on the spool

    Gforcetrivers and Meatstick like this.

Nope. Its a first for me. I'll just keep adding split shot I guess.

Good rig. I just can't make myself use bright line on anything other than my sauger rod.

I generally use clear monofilament. I'll see how it works at a farm pond on Thursday...:D

I started using that Mr Crappie chartreuse looking line a couple years back to crappie fish with. It has been really helpful jig fishing on days when the bite is super light. Can see the line really well on the surface of the water.

The rig casts fine with Rooster Tails or a small Beetle Spin. I should be fine this spring.

A few years ago I bought some red mono. It was something on clearance at Walmart. I took it to South Carolina to fish the creek on the island where the tide comes in and out. I had no problem with the line and caught several trout and flounder on Berkeley salt water jigs.
