Need a smart feller's opinion (fungus related)

I found this while squirrel hunting. Its on a downed tree. I thought it was some sort of furry creature at first glance. What is it?

From memory, the experts will tell you "we have a winner !!" ...... but I'm not that expert. Highly desired from memory and excellent table fare.

Fresh Lion’s Mane. I like to slice it about 1/2 inch thick and sauté it just like I would scallops. The texture will be similar to scallops. Good find! Been a couple of years since I found one.

They are easy to spot but i find them in places I wouldn't think to specifically look, mostly on accident.

Well I found two lions mane today however it’s going to take a little bit of figuring in order to get them out of the trees, You can also get a pretty good idea of why these things can be hard to spot. I’ve found a few on stumps but it seems as though most require you to look up on Dead and dyingtrees
