went to check my deer cam today. walked all the way out the ridge got my card and headed back. got to within about 100 yards of the truck and heard something that sounded like something blowing. looked to my right and about 10 yards from me laid this big dude.

let the 357 magnum roar and killed him. he was 45 inches long and had 7 rattlers and a button. first one i have ever come across in the woods. really sucks that it was that close to my stand location. he is now skinned and drying out on a board.

Those are some great table fare. It takes a good size one like that to make it worthwhile. A little Kentucky Colonel seasoned flour and fry in peanut oil. GOOD EATS

Probably a female, they usually have a shorter, thicker tail than a male.

that is why i wear snake boots in the early season! sure would hate to take a hit from one of these babies or copperhead either one. don't see them that often while in the woods but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

Killed one last week on the tracks working that was 42" and had only 5 rattlers. It was right beside where I hunting mushrooms at. Makes u think how many we have actually walked right by and never knew they were there.

Glad you got that dude,I have a feeling that getting bit by that guy would be like getting hit with a ball bat. My cousin sent me a mesage and said they killed a big copperhead behind there barn a couple days ago and that a big rattler was killed on the road in front of there other barn,come on cold weather.

A boy I work with killed one that 48" and had 11 rattlers and 1 button about 2 weeks ago.
