Dude just walks in on him at first light. Shoots two squirrels and sits down leaning his back on the tree my son has his camera on. I rush back out to this farm to pick him up and the dude was still there at the tree. I ran into the landowners son on my way in. He said he gave this guy permission but come on he was almost sitting on the corn pile.

Yeah I’d be irritated too. How old is your son? Did your son say anything to the guy or stay quiet? That guy has no decency, guess he thought that looked like a good squirrel baiting sight

People are clueless or just don’t care; I’m picking the latter.

This is his target buck. My son is 15, he did not say anything to the guy because he had a gun and he didn’t know him. After I got there the guy had killed one of the squirrels and couldn’t find it. My boy walked right over and picked it up for him. We did exchange numbers so we can communicate future hunts.

Call me crazy but I would have had a come apart. If the dude didn't realize he was hunting over someone's deer corn pile an didnt see your son there. He dont have any buisness being in the woods anyway.

I’d try and find a different spot. I couldn’t deal with landowner just letting anyone hunt like that.

Did you talk to the dude? Seems like the cornpile would have pushed him elsewhere but honestly there’s a lot of people who still don’t think of deer hunting this early in the year. I didn’t start deer hunting until late 90s and a few years before a buddy and myself took his Jeep up a trail to hunt the top of this ridge. We heard a dude yelling and we’d parked right under a deer Hunter in a climber. It was an area right where the two property lines met. He was pissed at first but he came down and when we started talking it became quite funny. Also, I’m sure our EKy hunters can relate, but back in 2011, my dad and I were on an elk hunt. Private land but several roads that led in from other properties. We were set up calling in this one area that had great sign. I had parked my wheeler right in the middle of the trail/road probably 200 yds back. We hear something and an old dude on a 4 wheeler drives right up on us. He said, “I saw your wheeler back there, I’m just gonna ease around you guys and hunt a few squirrels on this ridge out here.” We asked the landowner and he was like, “One thing you ain’t gonna stop in these mountains are the squirrel hunters.” LOL.

I’d have lost it on him. Geez. Either extremely ignorant, extremely rude, or both.

Smart of your son to play it the way he did and contact you.

Boy should have made the guy aware that he was there. If the squirrel hunter is that oblivious to his surroundings, he could have shot in your sons direction with a bad outcome.

This was my thinking too. I’d rather him know I’m there.

Unfortunately a lot of folks don’t know much about ethics, respect, or courtesy towards other hunters or others in general. It’s easy to say that you’d lose it on this guy but in the times we’re living in, do you really want to take a chance with a guy with a shotgun? I agree that the young man could have made his presence known but it sounds like he stayed calm and there was an overall good outcome. This could have turned out much worse.
