This year I decided to put a new scope on my granddady’s Old Ruger M77 243. He used to make fun of us for our 30-06 and our 308 calibers. He said if we knew how to shoot we wouldn’t need such big guns. So I decided to honor him about 7 years after he died and put his old deer rifle back into action. It’s two for two so far. Last week in Ky I shot an old strange looking 8 pointer (part donkey?), and yesterday I had a nice 8 step onto the field at 300 yards In Indiana. I shot him and I think granddaddy would be happy I learned to make accurate longer shots and used his rifle that used to ride along on his tractor and four wheeler. I don’t know how many deer he killed with it over the years (probably a bunch), but I can add two to the list.

Awesome! Few things in life are as valuable as "Grandaddy's" old gun!
    At least to me anyway.
Got a couple that I always say will be the last 2 things to go if times get hard and I had to sell everything I owned.... 1st is Grandaddy's old A5 Browning from 1953 and the other is a nickel plated S&W 38 with a 6 inch barrel.

Very nice deer, rifle, and story. The first time I ever deer hunter with a rifle was with that exact model and caliber. It was borrowed from the brother of a girl I was dating at the time. It was a tack driver.

Love seeing the stories where grandpaps/moms stuff is used not matter if it's hunting/fishing or whatever. You know they are smiling down. Congrats!

Congratulations! There's always been something special about killing one with my grandpa's or great-grandpa's gun.
