In your opinion, what is the most underrated caliber?
Problem is there are too many old falling block and antiques out there that ammunition manufacturers won't load to today's potential out of fear of blowing them apart. SAMI needs an update. Load mine to .45-70 Express Magnum Nitro please...
Kills like lightning up to deer size critters
I was looking at rifles in that caliber the other night, but not many manufacturers are putting 24 inch barrels on them, and I have read to get the full potential of the round, you would need the extra 2 inches.
Question has me split between 2 .... 264 Win mag & the 280 Remington would be the most underrated of any I could think of.
But a lot has to do with the definition of underrated.
Which as popular a caliber as the 308 & 30-06 is..... their probably the most overlooked calibers from today’s hunting perspective... and honestly have taken any game in North America.
The most overrated ....and I earned the right to say that as I hunted with the caliber for probably 30 years... the 270 Winchester. The 308 or 30-06 would kick its butt any day of the week and twice on Sunday just from the perspective of versatility of bullet weights.
.30-.30 never gets the credit it deserves
Most versatile caliber in existence.
7 X 57 m/m or 7 m/m Mauser. Excellent cartridge, but it suffers competition with other calibers.
7mm-08,,,, flat shooting,light recoil,deer dropper.
Maybe one of the best deer rounds ever made, really under used.
