Nice HH! Things are much greener down on the Ky/tn line for sure. You probably already mowed the yard lol. Got some red dirt down there too, I thought it was fake for minute haha

I checked a few patches on my Hart county farm today. I don’t think last weeks rains hit my place. Great day in the woods but no shrooms.

The Hart/Edmonson county lines split my farm 1 mile North of the park boundary.

So do you guys have any pointers for someone who has no idea how to hunt them? North facing hillside? Particular patches of forest floor they like? Under a particular species of tree?

Not sure about where them boys find em but here is what little experience I have. I have found them in several places but here are what I focus on. The best places have always been in areas where I find some dead elm trees, preferably with some bark still on the tree. Secondly I look for old growth poplar flats with not much undergrowth that stays pretty shady. Thirdly I have found them around apple trees some in the past usually in old orchards that have been forgotten but were kept pretty clean. This is in the southeastern part of the state mostly.

I have two patches I find most in and they are under cedars and on mossy ground. Some bottom land that is a mix of sycamore and box elders. I think it is about soil temps and moister content more then anything. I have found them in flower beds, along gravel roads, about everywhere. You just gotta cover ground and when you find one, stop and look there is more around 90% of the time. Good luck, your first batch is always the best tasting!!
