That's just a pleasant diversion for a dog. I had an old dog that would point them in the fields or in the garage. I killed a couple in front of him; he would swallow them whole.

My dog, the dalmation looking beast in the picture, is just point crazy. Always has been, he points everything, and at times it is a little frustrating. However, when in grouse coverts he is fairly focused, except when it comes to deer pointing, or turkeys.

I can always pretty well tell when it is a turkey point. The dog is unsteady, looks back at me, not focused, relocates repeatedly. A flock of 10-20 turkeys puts out a lot of scent and they'll point them from a long distance.

You have beautiful animals. If they point a few unwanted critters, that's not a big deal. Stomp the mouse flat and reward the dog for his hunting skills.

My lab will get all excited over trash - ie bottles, bags, etc if its a slow day upland hunting.

Mine gets bored throughout the hunt, when its an unproductive day. She fools with stink birds an all the like, she even pointed a budweiser can the other day...

Had a Weimeraner that would point box turtles and skunks. She would also retrieve both back to you if you didn't watch it.

My gsp gets bored on unproductive days and carry a stick around. Also likes to retrieve your shotgun halls when she don't get to retrieve the bird.
