I been shooting just 209 winchester in the blue box, cant find them, bought a box of the winchester 209 in the new box, i posted a pic of here, in a thread suppose to be same, but i dont know.
The inability to find proper 209 shotgun primers suitable for Blackhorn-209 is very problematic. On their website Blackhorn recommends the use of a "Magnum" type 209 primer to ensure proper ignition. Winchester 209 are, according to Blackhorn, are not strong enough for proper ignition, but may use this type primer. I also found out that my T/C Black Diamond is not suitable for Blackhorn as it has an "open" breech, and BH is made for use in a closed breech M/L.
Thanks Davers, i been shooting the winchester in the blue box for a long time with blackhorn, before that federal, the bluebox winchesters shoot great, i just was trying to find out if these were the same primer, a lot of people say they are just that winchester changed the box on them. Im gonna buy some more anyway, hard as stuff is to get.
Truth about the recoil. I originally tried to sight my wolf in with a 150 gr. load of powder pellets. Besides kicking like a grown mule, I could not get good groups. I went down to 2 50-gr. Pyrodex pellets. Not only was the recoil more manageable, but also the groups improved. And the 100 gr. charge performed just fine on the deer I shot last year at 90 yards. Took out both front shoulders, was a pass-thru, and dropped right there. Good enough for me.
Yeah, it is very hard locating a box or two of proper 209 primers for M/L use. I returned to using Triple 7 loose powder as I have a box of Winchester 209 primers for proper ignition using Triple 7. I use 90 grains (Volume) with a sabot 250 grain .451" Hornady XTP bullet for my load.
I use 100grains and a 250 g Hornady out of a Knight and it shoots excellent. One of my best shooting guns.
