Thanks for posting this. I listened to it several days ago. Very interesting info for anyone interested in turkey hunting. The bit about spurn length and aging was good. That 3-4 year old bird your bragging about might just be a two year old. Also discussed boss bird and breeding hierarchy. Compares it to a ladder. When boss (breeder) is killed, there is no second in charge that takes over. Entire ladder is broken down and new pecking order is established, which slows breeding. Sounds like it would be better to not shoot the boss in order to not disrupt breeding.

What was the owl info? Our property is covered up in big owls. Was wondering if they put a hurting on turkeys. Anything on hawks? Bunch of big red tails on our place also.
My questions as well. I’ve always heard that owls attack turkeys when they are roosted and will eat their heads.

Owls attack gobblers on roost. Also said they had tracked a group of predators including two owls, coons, maybe a fox, and another predator or two. The owls killed all of the tracked predators. Owls are bad news.

Never knew owls would attack larger animals. But, i have seen some huge ones over the years. Hit one in a truck about 20 years ago that had almost an 7ft wing span and was around 40" from top of head to feet.

Yes, he discusses it around 26 minutes into podcast. A pair of horned owls killed 4 coons, skunk, grey fox, and two hens in same general area. All had radio collars.
There were 5 different owls talking the other evening. These are big in my book, 18-20 something inches long, head to tail feathers. We bump one quite often in the same general area.

I almost hit one in my truck Monday night. Made me flinch as it flew across in front of me.
