Buddy shot a doe this evening. No luck in finding it so we backed out. Will the meat be worth salvaging tomorrow with these temps tonight? We plan on going out in the morning and giving it another go and he kept asking if the meat would still be ok. And with these temps and misting rain, I honestly didn't know what answer to give him. Opinions??

i'd be iffy about eating the meat, it's also supposed to rain harder later tonight in my area so that would probably take care of any blood trail. just my opinion , good luck and be safe

We couldn't find any blood trail tonight. He said he hit it a lil far back. We did find part of his arrow broke off. Broadhead and about 10 inches of arrow must still be in the deer. Found the back end of arrow right where he shot her. Obviously didn't get good penetration. He really wants to find it, but just unsure of the meat being edible. I'd be kind of iffy of it myself, but i'm willing to help him all I can to find it.

The deer will be fine as long as the yotes don't beat you to it.

Meat will be fine as stated earlier. There might still be enough blood to track despite the rain. Also if you take your time you'd be surprised how far you can track a deer just on tracks alone.

Meat will be fine. We have backed out on deer in September and found them the next morning and the meat was fine. And that was high 60's low 70's at night. As long as it isn't ridiculously hot temps at night the deer will be fine.

Meat should be fine if it hasn't turned into coyote bait. Good luck finding her!

Hard to imagine a scenario where the arrow wouldn't penetrate guts. May have hit that deer better than he thinks.

Well we found her! He hit her alot farther back then he thought. looks like it got in the guts and hit the offfside back leg. Think the meat is still good after laying all night with a gut shot?

No one can say for sure without seeing the meat. Best guess is its fine, just clean it up good like any gut shot. Good job finding her! How far did she go?

I'd think so. Skin and put on ice right away... But always trust your nose!
