I am planning on harvesting an elk this fall and would like to know if anyone has any suggestion for a home made pack frame or the best place to buy one.

    Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Saw one being used in Colorado one year by a long-time elk hunter. He said it was the best he had ever used, and that he wouldn't use any other. I have thought about getting one myself. Until then, I will use

    my Coleman like this

I have hauled several deer for several miles, and while the Coleman isn't perfect it does work. Also my friend uses an Alaskan from Cabelas. He likes it for heavy loads. 80+ pounds or so. My other buddy used a North Face to haul a ridiculous amount of weight, I mean ridiculous, just to do it. But it worked.

Some other frames you might want to consider is Cabelas Alaskan Frame only. If you are looking for a backpack that can pack out meat too, this is the best I have found.
