So I took a large package to UPS Friday evening. Not heavy, just awkward. I asked how much to box and mail ground. Guy asked the value of the product then took some measurements. A few seconds later he looks up and says, “Are you ready for this?” $313 dollars. After me having a heart attack, he says well I can paper wrap it (crossbow case) to the shape and it would be $230. He goes on to tell me that even if I didn’t try to mail the case and just the crossbow and accessories in a box, I’d still be well over $100. I said no thanks. Yesterday, my wife and I did an ugly makeshift box for the crossbow and accessories and I mailed USPS today for $52.80. Now, I would say this guy was a rip but another time when I tried to mail just a bare crossbow UPS they came back with $127 and that was like 8 years ago. UPS may be better, safer, etc...but that’s ridiculous! I asked the guy how other people got by with the ol add 19.99 for shipping, etc...and he said he had no idea but that big companies like Cabelas, etc...sign multi million dollar contracts with UPS to mail their stuff. I don’t care how much better, safer etc...they’re supposed to be, I’ll mail USPS and take my chances. Oh, and I did asked if the price had anything to do with insurance/value of the item and he said, “No most of the payment is for truck space.” WTH?

We mailed a "care package" to our daughter when she was on mission in Albania..... It was a 12X12X12 box with nothing but splenda packets, instant oatmeal, and other little treats. Weighed under 10 pounds. It was over $300. We didn't send any more care packages....

I mailed a riven hickory stave to Washington state a couple of years ago for a guy to make an axe handle. The stave weighed around 12 lbs., was 6" in diameter and 38" long. Almost $40 bulk rate. USPS

LOL. I guess you got a point there! They can ship, right? Or is that just not a place they ship to?

You can calculate shipping price with UPS ,
USPS and FedEx before you ship.
Flat rate boxes is best sometimes and sometimes they are not cheaper. But for shipping to Hawaii flat rate is best even to DR.

All of your shipping sound high . Are you shipping at the post office or from home . I have both USPS and UPS accounts and print shipping labels from home. I just sent a package to CA 21" x16" x14" weight was 26.5 lbs with USPS and it was $68
I also ship with Paypal sometimes and it will be cheaper than going through USPS directly
    I ship to Canada for around $65 . package avg 10 pounds 14"x 16" x 12"
