Hey guys just wanted to try this ok here it goes.it started with me and my dad 24 years ago so excited about the elk coming back to Kentucky I dreamed of hunting a big screaming bull elk when I was a young boy WActhing videos and my heart raceing hearing the elk screaming through the years I’ve seen a few bull elk and cows around here in Kentucky I live just out of the elk units in Kentucky. Me and my dad put in for the first 12 tags they had they put your name in a cage and rolled it and drew names out six residents and six non-resident tags I think that’s how it went but as years went on we never did get to hear our name that was a dream for me and my dad to get to hunt elk in Kentucky but my dad passed away in 2017 so sad he didn’t get to experience a elk hunt but we had many good deer hunts so here in 2023 I got 23 years in the elk draws never been drawed and I think I’ve got 24years from the first 12 they ever had but with the loyalty draw I might get one this year or next been doing some research on units but still was hoping someone out there good help me if I get a tag on some private or some information on a good unit to hunt just thought I would try it’s been along road to a draw with my name on it it’s going to be a very emotional hunt for me because of the time that has passed and the passing of my hunting partner my dad.sorry for the long post thanks guys and gals for any good information my number is 859-221-8257 text or call me god bless everyone

Have you confirmed with kdfwr to be sure you are on the list of “put in every year since the beginning” . There are countless people who either missed a year or didnt put in the first few years that think they are on that list that aren’t.

Yes I received a email from fish and wildlife saying be prepared to maybe get a tag said I had 23 years is what the email said.

I got a call from F&W yesterday myself. 23 years and may get a chance to go this year. Lady told me they usually have about 100 tags that go unclaimed and they have 61 people eligible for the redraw this year. Guess we'll find out in a couple weeks.
Sorry you lost your dad Dreamhunter but I bet he'll be along with you on your hunt. Good luck and be safe.

I was like you, put your name in and give them your money since it stated. Well last year I got drawn in the first week of Cow Season. I put in for area 7. I never put in for the "Dedicated Area" until real late. That was my mistake due to not understanding what it was. I was awarded the Johnson Tract. That does not guarantee a elk but it gives you your own area to hunt. My Son's and I had the whole area. We were allowed to drive the roads and there were plenty. I only had a 2 wheel drive pickup and never spun a tire. All the roads were gravel. We were all over those mountains. Great people to deal with that owned and mine that area. We went down on 8-29-22 and scouted, saw 4 or 5 almost dark. My Son gets on Google Earth, and finds more watering holes. Went back first week on Friday, again saw 4 or 5 very late on Friday. come Saturday, first day of legal gun season through Wednesday and never saw another elk. Saw deer but no elk. Male sure you watch each and every video the Ky. Fish and Game put out, very rewarding and lots of help to keep you legal. Had a great time, beautiful Mountains, but no elk. It was a lifelong dream of mine just to go. So follow your dream, I'm sure your Dad will be with you. If you need more info, hollar back. Good luck.

I can't find any info on exactly what day the re-draw is... application deadline for units was yesterday, was the drawing immediately after? anyone know? I checked my page and all the info seems to look the same, it does not say "not drawn in the re-draw" or anything like that. I have 11 and don't expect to be drawn, but would love to know when exactly i can expect to be disappointed haha!

I would imagine you’re about 10-12 years behind getting drew. The way I understand is it’s longer you’ve been in first and then go down the line. I could be wrong though. I think the goal is to get everyone who has put in every single year and then worry about everyone else

The deadline for buying your tag was last night at 12 the dead line for area draw is June 30 not for sure when they redraw any unsold tags

That's what I figure as well, 7-10 years. I like the strategy you describe if that's the case, but i can't find any info about how the drawing is conducted. Is it like you're standing in-line, or is it you get X entries into the new pool of loyalty tag holders? it SOUNDS like a lineup around seniority but they dont say how the drawing is conducted, or what day it happens on.

I have not put in every year that the drawing has been held so I know I am not in this Loyalty drawing . I was curious and went and looked at my profile on F and W website. At the top of my profile it says Loyalty Years and mine says 3 of 23. However the information contained on my profile below also shows I have entered the elk draw 17 years. I find this information confusing to say the least. Does anyone understand how they are determining the Loyalty Draw years? Seems my profile should say 17 years of the 23 instead of 3 years of the 23?
