For 11 years some of you guys have seen me post pics of my youth hunts (I rarely posted pics of the regular season) and in all of them there was a proud Lab, Odis. Odis turned 11 in February and seemed to be in top shape. We hunted hard this year and some days he was disappointed, others he was exhausted. Odis never met a stranger or a hunting situation that he didn't like. A few guys on here have met and hunted with Odis and if you've had a gun dog you know the relationship and bond that is created with a water dog. Odie left his mark and lived his best life!

Sorry for you and your families loss.

Sounds like the dog we all aim to keep around us. I can’t remember you not having that dog.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. A hunting Dog is a partner friend and family.
My first Lab was 17 when she passed. My old Lab now she just 13. We had some really good times together. She has been deaf for last 2 years. But still loves going. Last year I could see how much she had slowed down. Some days she could barely get up but she would go to the door wanting to go. Id take her knowing it was probably her last year. Now she is helping train my new Pup. Which will take her place. If she knew that. She might try it teach it bad habits. But she is still enjoying the retrieving to show the pup.
I know the day is coming when she will be called to the hunting ground in the sky. I dread that day when it comes. She will be missed dearly. BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.
So sorry again for the loss.

They teach many lesson both in life and death... They leave deep impressions on our souls and memories.... The hunt and life itself would not be nearly as sweet without their presence.. My condolences.

The only known cure is to offer the opportunity to the next dog and start the making of memories once again.

Sorry to hear. You just don't understand the love dogs give us until you have a hunting dog. Rest easy.
