Anybody ever take one apart? I cut open a longbeard shell a friend left me. The shot buffer is super glue or some type of plastic glue. The glue is apparently frangible (easily broken) to allow the shot to separate. Just seemed weird and would throw inconsistent patterns but they say no. Interesting.

I have cut one open before. But all I got to say about them is they perform great out of my gun. All I shoot. I’ve killed several with them. But you will miss at close ranges. I know cause I missed one last year at 10 yards and missed one year before that at 20 yards. 30 yards and over to about 65 yards there’s no hope for the gobbler if I do my part. I’ll continue shooting them unless something changes.

They perform better out of my gun than anything I've ever shot. As Raspy said, it's like throwing a softball at their head at close range (inside 30 yards) !!

I have been using them for the past 3 seasons and they throw a great pattern.Like others have said you may miss at close range. If the gobbler is very close I body shoot them, they go down!!

Buddy just had a choke made for his gun, shot the longbeard shell thru it at 40yds, 244 out of 278 in a 20" circle. That's 88%, that's pretty good!

I have to ask...what made you want to take the shell apart?

I shot a bird 50 yards and another 5 yards a few years ago with them. It took a chunk out of the neck but didn't cut it off.

Always shot the XX. Bought some Longbeard XRs and the matching Carlson choke this Spring...unfortunately, didn’t get a turkey to try them out on! :( Killed at 62 and 52 with XX and my old Carlson choke so if they top it they are humdingers!

I reload and am always interested in what diff companies do trying to make their shells better. I've heard quite a few folks talk about the performance and was reading about it online and wanted to know.
