When someone lets you participate in your first adult conversation it might be a good idea not to let it devolve into booger and fart jokes.

That beign said, if you don't even understand well enough what even can be done within the season structure in terms of zones and splits and how they interact, why don't you just excuse yourself from the conversation? You are just bringing it down.

Ridge Rumbler, KDFWR ain't got the guns to get the raw numbers to turn out true data. Also, they aren't going to find what they aren't looking for. If they can't muster a proper, repeatable, waterfowl survey during season they sure aren't going to expend funds to start looking for them middle of october. That is why you aren't going to have data to support anything other than status quo. I doubt you find data to support it either but change is scary.

Only downside I see to your zone proposal there BM is the far west zone, by virtue of including the twin lakes, might miss out on the teal, robber, grey duck push that happens pretty reliably. Otherwise I really like it. It may need to get to the county level so to not split a county in half but I like the concept.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the seasons setups done in something like 5 year increments and the latest round was last year? I am fully for a change in the structure, but just wasn't sure if it was something we could hope to see next season or something to start the discussion on now so it can be worked towards for the next round.

What year do they go back and look at season openings/changes?

I asked the same thing...yet no answer. I'm sorry but it's going to do you no good to complain on an internet forum. It probably won't do you any good to complain to a commissioner, unless it's a year of change or looking at changing laws. I believe it's a 4 year increment. But I can't remember the years.

Just cut it to 30 and 3 and be done with it. 5 days mid Nov. Jan 1-25. Burn all the vacation days and deal with "the stare" when you tell your wife you can't take off for kids spring break.

Read that adaptive harvest stuff much and you see that there aint no 45 and 4. It is 45 and 6 still, just your number of hen mallards goes down.

I always thought it was 60/6 45/4 and 30/3 up till I read up on it more.

5 year increments, changes can be made for the 2016-2017 season, KDFWR is supposed to notify USFWS by Dec 2015 if they plan to make changes then.

Now is the time to be speaking to the waterfowl coordinator, commissioners, etc.

If that's the case, here's my opinion. Make 3 splits. Have a 3 day season at the last of Oct/Nov. For this year, it would be the 30, 31st and Nov. 1st. Then open again on Thanksgiving-the Sunday. Open again on December 10th-January 31st. (I believe that's 60 days.)

Take away the days in early December for your early split.

Do not take days away in January or after December 15-17th.

If you are going to have an early season, might as well have it on the weekend when 80% of people can hunt. That's the majority and fair.

Start on Jan 31 and count back 60 days and that be the opener! I gonna plant more corn and move to the corn the ducks in and rotate as they do. Simple!

BM and Smash hold my proxy on all season dates.. When BM talks y'all best listen. The man has been at it longer than most including me and I've just completed my 32nd season. Pressure pushes our ducks out worse than anything. Rest afforded during splits would be a blessing. The last two 60 day straight seasons were awful. We all know we are out of the big flyway now anyway. Keeping what ducks we do get is more important than ever.

True. Before too long people will be talking about Jayhawk and Sooner mallards instead of Bootheel and Greet Timber.
