For the most part, We dodged a bullet, thank goodness!! We received very little damage and had very few without power for any length of time. It was like we had a dome over us during this time! Really the only areas that had any substantial damage was in the higher elevations of Pine Mountain. The most serious situation we had was above Jenkins, atop Pine Mountain on the Virginia line is. Because of its elevation, that’s where several of our vital communication towers are located. Power was knocked to these towers and we had to cut a path in so the Power Company could access it to restore power. Took about 4 hours to clear about 1 mile worth of steep, icy roadway. First place we were blocked. Kinda shows how steep this section was. It was hairy trying to climb it. Guys getting ready. Cutting and Clearing. First view of a tower. Overlooking Jenkins area. Severely Iced up Tower. Some Damage to building. Made it to the Top here. Overlooking Wise County Va. This Tree was the culprit.
