For the most part, We dodged a bullet, thank goodness!! We received very little damage and had very few without power for any length of time. It was like we had a dome over us during this time! Really the only areas that had any substantial damage was in the higher elevations of Pine Mountain.

The most serious situation we had was above Jenkins, atop Pine Mountain on the Virginia line is. Because of its elevation, that’s where several of our vital communication towers are located. Power was knocked to these towers and we had to cut a path in so the Power Company could access it to restore power. Took about 4 hours to clear about 1 mile worth of steep, icy roadway.

    First place we were blocked.[IMG]

Kinda shows how steep this section was. It was hairy trying to climb it.

Amazing pics! I've been away from Letcher County for years but are the towers up where the park used to be on Pound Mountain? Maybe named Raven's Rock or something like that?

It most certainly could have been much worse, but more could fall from all in time. Decent write-up photos, and I liked these three the best:

    1. Someone did a wise reverse and park job, but I imagine the ride up was much fun. I would have thoroughly enjoyed that part, while not the outside temperature.

    2. Cute butt shot. Looks like he has many layers of warm clothes stuffed back there, lol.

    3. Pretty view over the city, with the clouds and all the snow about, but that beautiful blue sky partially in view is what makes all pop. I like that photograph the best.

While I didn’t have time to really explore and actually “look” for any critters or sign on this expedition atop Pine Mountain, I’m happy to say that not a single sign of these blasted overgrown Raccoons was found!
