Back in the 90’s did they experiment and release wolves in LBL? I was turkey hunting there back then and myself and a couple of buddies could have sworn we watched one hunting in a power line cut through. We watched him for 5-10 minutes and all of us could swear it was so much bigger and heavier than any coyote we had ever seen. Just didn’t look like a coyote. We spoke with a local guy and he told us they had released some, but the program didn’t work.

Yeah they talked about releasing red wolves back in the 80s or 90s with a lot of pushback from local livestock farmers bordering LBL. I’ve seen a couple I’d swear were red wolves dart across the road back in the day cruising LBL backroads at night.

I could have sworn I seen one cross 80 in Metcalf county one night. Then I got a good look at one on my uncles bottom farm one evening deer hunting. It had ears like a fox but bigger than a coyote. I didn’t even know of they existed until I was researching what I had seen.

There was a confirmed wolf kill in Ky a few years ago. Amish guy killed it. Was it in Hart county. They thought it was a released pet.

I talked to an LBL biologist this morning who said there was talk about releasing a few pairs of red wolves 30 years ago but there was massive resistance and blowback from bordering counties and they nixed the plan. I reckon they just run a captive breeding program.

Around two years ago, I saw two wolves while Squirrel Hunting on my property. They looked very much like the photo, only they had a white tip on the end of their tail. They came up behind me then turned to the right of me and entered a thick grove of pine. Never saw them again though, but they were larger than a Coyote.
Nope, not buying it.

Wintertime coyotes, coats get thick and they puff to look twice their size. I have tromped over a lot of lbl, seen plenty of coyotes, no wolves. There aint no panthers either, jury is still out on bigfoots (feet?). been a few bigfoot sightings, but i think mostly by drunk coon hunters.

I was hunting a farm in Mason Co. a few years back. I was late to my blind and decided to lean against an old fence pole. It was late ML season and it was cold. This coyote crossed a point in the field, it was huge! Biggest I'd ever seen! If I didn't know any better I would have guessed it a wolf. I watched for him to cross another spot on his path that I could get a shot but he never showed himself. That was the only time I felt like "food".

Meateater had a podcast with the guy that was involved with the red wolf reintroduction in NC. He also mentioned some other places they had tried. But I can't recall if LBL or Mason was mentioned.
