Why is feral hog hunting illegal? They state that multiple times. Figure it should be year round open season. Or is it only illegal because it is public?

No opinion on the hunting regs but baiting those drop traps looks pretty effective. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Once you get them you never get rid of them, they just move off then come back. First year we got them on our farm down here between me and a couple other guys on their farms we killed 274 on roughly 600 acres. Ran them off for about 6 months then they were back. They are like rats never go away

I understand their thinking, but hate seeing all that pork go to waste. Feel like it should be processed for hunters for the hungry.
I feel the same way but I'm not sure how the logistics would work. Those are domestic hogs that people have been turning loose. I'm pretty sure meat from a domestic animal has to be USDA certified to be given to folks for consumption. By law, feral pigs can't be transported alive. Trapping provides the biggest bang for the buck for wild hogs, but say 20 are caught in a trap way back in the woods, They have to be killed right there. In practical terms, there are significant barriers to getting them field dressed & to a processor.

Maybe in Kentucky. Texas loads them up and corn feeds them. Actually think a lot of states do. That’s why it’s legal for them to be served in restaurants. And if I’m not mistaken they can be labeled as just pork after so long. And hunters for the hungry is extremely viable for this. It’s a want to situation. If KDFWR wanted to they literally can have a USDA guy with them as they kill them who will stamp them for wholesale. And regardless of if they are turned loose or not, one generation makes them feral or wild. Not for sure but probably wouldn’t be considered domestic from the initial turning loose phase.
