Four channels and two blues. One blue was 29” and one was 31”.. caught the blues on jugs. Most of the channels on poles.

Well the channels caught on poles were caught on dip bait.
Those blues were caught on big live creek chubs about 5”-6” long.

What is everyone's go to catfish bait.

  6. Catalpa worms or night crawlers. Got tired of messing with chicken livers.

Can't get shad now around ky lake so we're using cut bluegill. Working well. Keeping the boys busy catching gills then catching catfish. Tried crawlers, little smokies soaked in koolaid, chicken livers and beef liver.

Live bait, gills and big creek chubs. Cut bait like bluegill, shiners etc. dip bait for smaller eater size cats that keep the kids busy.
Livers were always a love/hate thing with me. Caught cats but every other fish and tiny cat pecks it to death before a decent cat gets to it. I wrapped mine in thread and it stayed on fine but still gets pecked off.
Crawlers same way. Can’t keep the small fish away and really only catch early cats in the spring on crawlers anyway.
    Blues: big fresh cut bait
Channels: cut bait and dip bait
Flathead: big live bait. Suckers up to 14”-16” being my favorite

I seemed to have heard you could put a liver in a little pantyhose sock, like the ones they give at shoe carnival to try shoes with.
That keeps them from coming apart. Never tried it but makes sense.

It does work but I like thread better. Look at this kyafeild video. They use thread on livers for throw lines

try chicken breast cut into bait sized chunks and bait up & hold on. Not as messy , stays on great and works much better than you'd think, still make sure to wash hands well before eating etc. (as with any raw chicken, including liver)

Quite a while back we use to run trot lines with white raisins, you don't hear much about that anymore.
