That’s odd. I haven’t seen but one mature doe all season. 2 diff county’s. All been little yearling does. My wife killed a big ole doe but I haven’t. Just been yearlin does.
H&R ultra is the diamond of slug guns for me, when we are talking production guns. They will flat out shoot. That’s why they have 3x in price since New England went under..
Nobody kills doe anymore. The farmers that don’t lease are sick of it. I’m happy to oblige.

Honestly depends on the area. On the Edmonson Co farm, I didn’t see but 4 total deer in 10 sits. On the Metcalfe Co farm, it’s nothing to see 5-6 deer in one sit. Might be all buck, all does, or mixture of both. The Hart Co farm typically see 5-10 does to every buck.
A lot of the single shot slug guns (like the H&R) use oversized barrels...a 12 gauge blank bored to a rifled 20 gauge...this wall thickness provides adequate space to target crown the barrel...these single shot rifled slug guns are already inherently accurate and by cutting the barrel back to 18 1/2" should (theoretically) improve rigidity and definitely portability...the 12 gauge versions use a 10 gauge barrel blank...does make them a bit heavy -- 9 lbs or so for a single shot shotgun but that helps tame recoil pretty well...
I have one of the original Browning A-bolt slug guns with rifled barrel. Never killed a deer with it, but when I played with it yrs ago it was pretty accurate at 100. Never shot it past that. Put it's scope on something else and it's been a safe queen for 15-20 yrs.
Slightly less accurate than a good muzzleloader with about the same range is my experience. If you shoot like me sometimes, the extra couple of shots comes in handy.
