Hey fellas how's it going! New to the forum here. I just drew the Nov 7th & 8th quota hunt on Kleber/Rich. I have squirrel hunted this area, particularly the house tract, several times but never gone after anything else there. Could anyone with deer experience at Kleber comment on good strategies for the area or recommend a section of the WMA that is a good place to start? Definitely not asking anyone to divulge their honey-hole, but even just which access point to start with would be great. I have been only to the house tract off Owenton Road and the main office with the large parking lot on Cedar Road.
Ive hunted there many times. Go to the shooting range and park. You will notice a grassy road going on up the valley past the range. Walk up it till you see the third ridge going up to your right. Walk up it all the way to the top. There you see a fence row to private land. Back off about thirty yards and sit down or hang a stand. Lots of big oaks and you will see deer as the other hunters push them to you. Good Luck
Been to the range there several times. May have to do me a public land bow hunt and give this a try someday. Funny how deer hang there. Seems like people are at that range 24-7. I hunt a place a few miles away and sit and my stand and listen to the shooting through those big tubes from daylight til dark.
Well I wish they’d push some to the private land I hunt on. Last few years we’ve struggled to see deer at times. Don’t know that the heck is going on.
Used to put in there all the time. Killed two decent 10 points our first hunt there. Been back 3 times since and I think we’ve seen 1 deer all together in those 3 hunts. Somethings definitely changed Xbo. We decided we’d just put in for Paintsville Lake right here by the house. Instead of driving all the way down there, heck we can not see deer here just as easy lol.
Oh so it’s not just me or the land I hunt. Where I hunt is on Scott Co side but close to both Franklin and Owen. You’d think we’d be absolutely covered up with deer (and we used to be) but we’re simply not these last few years. Finally got cell service where I hunt and I put out 3 cameras, one a Reveal. Since midday Sunday, I’ve had the same 3 does visit a few times. I don’t rely that much on trailcams, but still, that’s crazy. I haven’t seen a single deer from my stand or blind in 5 sits so far. I saw 3 running through the woods leaving my blind Sunday morning then we jumped 3 by the road leaving from afternoon hunt. Otherwise a dead zone.
