Wondered how everyone was, been quiet.
Last night saw about 30 deer along a 2 mile stretch of road, so I would think, ‘A good night to hunt’ , but of course, family obligations.
I have really let deer hunting slide the last 5 years.
What with grandson’s deer boot camp and outstanding successes, ol Grinder just converted ( or is it perverted? 🤔) to outfitter, guide, and processor.
Ya know, im ok with that, dont pity me, just dont !
Checking my telecheck history the other night showed 17 deer taken since telecheck began, and there were several before that.
If I really never kill another deer, you wont see me poutin’ .
Its been a good ride !
Not sure how many more there will be, if any. Not real sure how many more years this guy will tote a climber, and climb a tree, but I intend to keep trying, just not with the zest I once did.
On the plus side, my prodigy child is enjoying his success, and more power to him. He matches me on telecheck, (17 deer)and surpasses me on a trophy sized buck this year, at age 15.
Although he has taken no traditional archery deer yet, I can assure you, he is more than capable. Right now he is in the ‘whack ‘em and stack ‘m ‘ stage, and the ‘trophy stage’ .
Eventually he will bore with the slaughter, and take a more challenging road, but in the meantime, I cheer him on.
I plan to keep donating funds to KDFW, and taking trips, if for nothing more than the campfire camraderie.
We got a good meat supplier, so…, Why Not ? 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I was looking for somewhere to post my chest beating. My first honest deer this year , out of 16. I'd rather kill one with a stick than 10 with a compound, but it's been a shoulder struggle for me his year. This one died from a 34lb recurve believe it not. Bout 7 yards. She even ran towards the house. I love hunting these stick bows.

Good post, Grinder. I too have noticed the quietness on here and started to post something yesterday to generate a little conversation. I really enjoy hearing of everyone's escapades in the traditional talk.

As a Christmas present from our Sunday School Class at church, I received a very nice gift this past Sunday. I was given an XOP lock-on stand and three climbing sticks, each stick with one of those rope ladders on the bottom. I've never tried this set up in the woods so I have a lot to learn. I've used lock-on's since '91 but not the rope ladder/stick combo. I may have to take a 3 credit hour college class to learn to use them, I don't know. At any rate, it was a very generous gift of which I am most appreciative. Should I be blessed with scoring a whitetail from it with one of my recurves, I will gladly post a picture.

Not a Traditional Hunt report but..........this year has been bitter sweet for this guy. I took the largest deer of my life (weight) and with my recurve in September. However, I have hunted pretty diligently with all weaponry this year and it has been SLOW for me. I'm not sure what the deal is. Had a nephew that busted a gut to get up here opening weekend of muzzle loading to hunt the entire week with me. We did hunt.......a lot. We camped.......a lot! He killed an 8 pt on Monday that scored 97--5/8", and I saw a 5 point the same day but as stated, my buck tag has been used. And that's the end of the success story. We never saw another deer (while hunting) the rest of the week. He left here headed for Texas early Sunday morning with his antlers and a cooler full of meat, but it was not the week we had hoped for. Our hunts were in Washington, Menifee and Nicholas Counties. I think Carp got the last one in Nicholas County. I've got to find his secret spot!!

Meatstick!........good going! Very impressive with 34lbs!........Very impressive with ANY poundage actually! Ha!

Grinder, I'm with Mason. I'm still in Whack 'em & Stack 'em mode........if I can find any to Whack!!

Looking forward to seeing you guys at the shoot next month!!

Meatstick, did you weigh her by any chance? She'll field dress over a 100 lbs, won't she?

Carp hunts within sight of the truck! He doesn't go marching off over into the river bottoms like you Jman. Apparently the deer don't go down there either.

😂 Sandman is right most of the time!
But I had a high tech hunting guide on that trip. Carried my stand in, Picked the tree, cut the deer up, and packed it out with my stand. All I had to do was shoot the thang! 😝

I might add that since the deer came from the direction he walked in when he left, and showed up in less than an hour, I kinda think he ran it to me also!

Don’t hire them Randy… Do this…
Have some major surgeries like transplant, cancer, and throat cut. Then have some cancer treatments, moan and groan a lot. When you get to where folks feel sorry for you they help a lot. Even pull your arrows on a 3D shoot. But don’t let my secret out!
