Why? Whats wrong with it?

Why should coaches hold the keys to a players career?

I don't think colleges - or coaches - should be able to force a kid to stay at a university where he doesn't fit. But I think we've gone too far.

I think freshmen should still be ineligible and that players should be held to some sort of academic standard - and not the kind of standard that was established by North Carolina. I also believe that no coach should make more than the average tenured professor.

I understand that as long as Disney/ESPN controls college athletics, this won't happen....

You think who offers the best NIL opportunities might play into their decisions? Show me the money????
Good players get paid regardless of where they are, the places like Bama offer more for athletes "possibly" but the best player on Oregon State will get what a good player on Bama gets. It isnt that crazy of a concept if you believe you get paid what you are worth. People obsess and local businesses support local players because its good for business. Show me the number that prove different.

You are a fossil. I'm not trying to denigrate you but the current situation is the product of 70+ years of that mindset.

And you are a coach. I can understand why you would love where things have been headed for the past few years.

I believe the "current situation" is totally messed-up. Let's see how it goes under the new world order. I'm thinking college athletics will soon go the way of NASCAR....

I was also a college player. Who wasnt allowed to make money from the school and didnt have enough time to have a part time job.

I dont know what the NASCAR reference means. If you believe that what you bring in should be relative to what you get paid, then I dont know where you see an issue.

Most transfer due to NIL. Some transfer because they not gonna play next year. Some do transfer for legit reasons. But transferring 2-3 times shouldn’t be allowed.
Prove it.

Agree to disagree. on the 2-3

Edit: to drive home what I’m sayin about NIL. 1% of hs athletes play division 1 sports. %1 of transfers do it for NIL.

Here’s where we are now at the mid-major basketball level from my perspective. We had a whale of a team last year mostly set to return for what promised to be the best ever in our history. We lose our coach to LSU along with our 2 best players and top signed recruit for this year. We signed 12 new players this year and in year’s past we would be looking to build the team for 2-3 seasons but not this year. Nope, the top 2-3 will transfer out to a BCS program and the reserves will look for a better fit. We maybe will return 2-4 and rebuild again, perpetually now it seems.

There isn’t a league of sports at any respectable level who allows a free for all from year to year like this except for the NCAA. I’m becoming as disinterested in college athletics as I have ever been and have to nearly force myself into that arena nowadays.
