Just got back from another great rabbit hunting trip in Kansas. Hunted some new ground and made some new friends. Weather was best on the first day we hunted. Still had quite a bit of moisture in the ground and we killed 33. The second day it warmed up and the wind blew pretty hard and the tracking got worse. We wound up with 20 that day. Third day, it got hot, 74 degrees, and 25-30mph wind. Tracking was horrible on the high ground. They could run, but if the track got too cold, they struggled. We managed to kill 23 that last day but had a lot get away. The dogs jumped a jack rabbit in a cow pasture and we ran that joker for 2 hours. That Kansas jack rabbit is no joke, when he leaves out, he covers some ground. I bet at one point, he was 1/8 mile or a little more in front of the hounds. My buddy shot at one a couple of times but it was just too far. All in all, it was a great trip and we had a ball. We ended up with 76 rabbits this trip and that was a close to our season. Time to start finishing the pups out for next season!
