My son took this the Sunday morning of youth season. He said he wanted a euro mount done. I told him it would be a few months before it’s done. I may have fib a little. C8A89BC8-45BB-4452-9D31-3FF5EBCB41F4.jpeg

This is probably my tenth one doing,I just start by removing all the hide and eyeballs and bottom jaw.And try to remove all the meat you can. I boil it for 1 hour on a low roll boil. I take it out and scrape any meat from the head and place back in water to boil for another hour.Take it out and pressure wash it ,I remove nasal bone.Get all you can off with it.And the next 2 days I’m just picking at it with a flat head screwdriver and wire.Once all or most is off,I put in peroxide 3% for 1-2 days. I just buy the big bottles at Walmart for a dollar.Just put the skull in it,will take the brown off the antlers.

How bad did this method weaken the skull? Did it hold up better than expected? Pics look good!

I only boiled it for 2 hours total this time, because I used a pressure washer. But times before I have boiled them 3-4 hours and you can tell the skull gets a little soft. But it held up good.

Looks good. I’ve done it this way a bunch. But next deer skull I do gonna be in a tote with a lid with holes drilled in it so flys can go in and do there thing. Boiling it does weaken it from my experience. Still good method. I understand that doing the tote process in winter might not have much flys but we do have warm days even in winter. I’m gonna try it anyway. I did a possum skull back in summer and in 3 days was clean. But it was summer. Like I said good job and that’s the way I do it but gonna try this other method. your boy will be proud.
