It will be interesting to have a wild Cougar population within 100 miles of Kentucky in the near future. The Ozark Mountains of Missouri and Arkansas will likely support a cougar population in the next few years. Several Cougars have been confirmed by Biologist during recent years only 100 to 125 miles west of Kentucky.

Why is it that Cougars are so popular that they made a sit-com about it that is fairly popular to viewers. However, if you made a sit-com about dirty old men chasing young tail, it would be offensive! Just shows you that males are victims of yet another form of discrimination.

Billproxs,
Long time listener, first time caller. I'm gonna ask my question and hang up and listen.
Why are so obsessed with Cougars? Seriously.

Most towns in Ky. have a good population of them. They hang out around local watering holes stalking and praying up on young men.

I've been attacked by a cougar before, and it wasn't that bad of an experience. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Frankly, I'd go through it again if I had the chance.

I live in a cougar sanctuary. You can hardly get the paper in the morning without seeing a few. Sometimes they get into your house and its nearly impossible to get them to leave without getting scratched.

Same here back in my younger days.I was scared and nervous at first when one approached me that look in the eyes and stealth moves circleing for the kill.Well it caught me took me to her Den I fought it for all I was worth she fought back after all that and me getting away in the morning while it slept I just had some scratches on my back. Like you I would fight another one if I HAD TO or CHANCE.

Like many others I am interested in a lot of wildlife.

Some do think it is interesting that cougars will and are living within 100 miles of Kentucky, back 20 years ago to find a cougar you had to go 1,000 miles west of KY, today there are some roaming around the Ozark Mountains which are only about 100 miles from Kentucky. It is somewhat interesting that they have been able to move back into areas they once lived decades ago.

Also, there is so much debate that occurs when discussing cougars, it is nice to post confirmations from Biologist from nearby states that show they are living in nearby states. Nobody can deny that anymore.

Bill, have any of these surrounding states had a female cougar? While young males certainly will range great distances.. they simply aren't capable of cloning and creating a population...

Garth Brooks had a song about a cougar... brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it...

Bill,

My father-in-law and i saw a cougar cross the high way in the Ozark national forest during opening morning of deer season in 1979 and until i saw that one for myself I was real skeptical as to weather or not there were any arround here. I was 19 years old at the time and some of the old timers told stories of seeing them years before i saw the one i did. So i think they have been arround alot longer than 20 years here. Most game biologist i have talked with would not know one if it was to bite them in the ass. So i would not read much into the results of their studys. The Ozark mountains has thousands of acres of very ruff and secluded terrain which makes it an ideal area for mountain lions to go undetected. Back in the 60's and early 70's when people use to do alot of coon hunting in the mountains there were numerious encounters of coon hunters and mountain lions.
