First of all, where are you? Says Nokomis FL when I click on your name. Very familiar with Nokomis. Was wondering about the Gators joke and then read your comment on hogs. I stay down in North Port a lot but venture up to Nokomis often. The beach, then Pops Sunset Grill. Love it! Anyway, if you’re in KY, I think In Range Archery in Richmond deals Prime. A quick online search says Centershot Archery near you has Prime.

I live in Nokomis, but I was born and raised in KY. Still got family there, so I go up every year for deer, turkey, and predator hunts.
I was just at Cooks in Venice and confirmed I’ll be getting a new setup. I’m looking at $600-$800 in parts to fix my issue. I can’t justify spending that much on an almost 20 year old bow with no warranty.
Do you hunt down here in FL as well?

I have not. When I retire and spend more time down there I will. My in-laws have a condo in North Port so we’ve been visiting that area since ‘13. Used to visit Naples before as my wife’s uncle owned a place down there. Have looked at some guided Gator and Hog hunts online but “haven’t pulled the trigger yet”. I have passed Cooks Sportland many times and haven’t stopped in. Need to do that. There are definitely deer down there…and plenty of hogs and gators! See smaller gators daily in the ponds around the condos and saw probably a 10-12 footer right off the road heading to eat at Stump Pass one evening. Lots of hogs off River Rd but it’s gotten built up a lot so don’t see what we used to. Went up to Myakka State Park once, hogs everywhere!

Cooks is pretty good. They got a good selection for being a small local sporting goods store.
Checked out Mathews, Hoyt and Bear today. Gonna look at the Prime and Elite tomorrow. Shooting next week.

Technology has came a long way in archery just like all other things in life but that being said pick a bow that you like.
Go shoot a bunch of brands if possible
Mathews and Hoyt of course are always toward the top but in the end that doesn’t mean they’re better for you.
Elite, bear, pse, prime all are solid companies

I’ve got a v3x for sale by the way lol
Good luck

Just out of curiosity, why are you getting rid of the v3x?

My son in law bought a new Bowtech this past spring..... I'd have to ask him what model as I dont remember. But it honestly was the most user-tunable bow I've seen, you could even adjust the cam position on the axel. Which I cant comment on how it shoots but the easier a bow is to tune or keep in tune I'm all for it.

Which I've shot compounds since I was a kid in the 70's .... had all brands, models & types (6-wheels, 2-wheels, 2-cams, single cams, back to 2 cams) from cheap to expensive over the years. My last two (one being a Mathews the other was a Parker (out of business now) were good shooters but I was constantly adjusting to keep them within specs. I constantly fought string and cable stretch, cam lean, ect.... seemed from one season to the next it was always something I had to tweak. Which mind you ... I'm anal about things like that and many things that bugged me another person would just not worry about and shoot as is. I'd also add the draw cycle seems horrendous on a lot of bows now and short brace heights (for speed) combined with short axel to axel lengths are not too forgiving. Most have a good solid back wall ... its just the getting there that bothers me and can magnify flaws in form when things are not the best. I finally (for various reasons) just went traditional several years ago and shoot a long bow or simply pick up the crossbow as season progresses. Thats just me and what makes me happy now.

Guess I'm just reiterating what others have stated...... shoot several brands & models and find the right bow for you. I'll also add ... my only other comment or two cents worth.... I've killed as many or more critters with relatively cheap bows than the ones I spent a lot of coin on. It's easy to buy into the marketing of bow companies and sponsors of tv shows... but at the end of the day its all about putting that arrow where it needs to go. I'll take accuracy over speed or name on the limb every time.

Got a new Elite Terrain, a mid priced bow $700, from Herndon archery. Very happy with it.
