Well, just a little... I added extra "D" rings to the bed for smaller stuff like minnow buckets and such.Just pulled one of the factory screws on the storage box... The other is the obligatory "tailgate theft preventer". A hose clamp to try to slow down the crack heads who steal tailgates for fun and profit.

Never heard of tailgate theft. Would take a slime ball to do that

If the salesman warn you about it during the briefing on your new truck, you know its a big deal.
Check out some of the thefts on YouTube. It takes just seconds...

Up in the woods above Lake Malone
They used to steal trucks out of the mill lots all the time only to find them a few miles away minus the tailgate. Also spare tires under a truck was a hot item. They caught a guy from Alabama with a entire truck bed full of new spare tires. Cordless drill and the correct size socket and extension they could have one and be gone in under a minute. Guys started putting heavy chains with good locks on them.

My truck has a lock on the tailgate and I was also briefed that it was a common item to have stolen and to keep it locked.

If you keep a dog box in your truck bed for any length of time, if possible, I would recommend locking your tail gate. I keep mine locked all the time. On my big diamond plate dog box I have four ratchet straps, a locking cable and my tail gate locked in hopes of slowing a thief down long enough for me to grab my gun, knife or wooden club to wear his head out with. I plan on making sure it's the most expensive box he ever stole.

You can't really keep them from stealing anything just hope to slow them down. If they want it bad enough they'll get it.

I worry about the dog box getting stolen but I have no lock on my tail gate

It takes two people to lift my dog box. I figure locking the tail gate would slow them down that much more as they would have to lift it over the sides after cutting the ratchet straps and cable.

I guess the only fool proof way is to just have absolute junk that isn't worth stealing and can't be scrapped.

I do like the clamp idea on the tail gate; that's a new one on me.

That only slows 'em down. If they got tools with them...
