Ice Fishing

  1. My cousin has been posting up pictures this year from NW Indiana, Crown Point area close to Chicago. His wife mentioned the ice was only 2-1/2” thick in one of his posts, too thin she claimed but he was fishing anyway.

BTW he grew up in the Crappie Hollow area of Blood River on Kentucky Lake so you know I razzed him good about those baby crappie lmao.

Growing up in Michigan I’ve done it, good times. Have a few buddies up there that are die hards. Said they only had 3.5” inches of ice so far. Trick to staying warm is getting your bonfire good and hot and peppermint schnapps!

I've done lots of ice fishing, bluegills, perch, pike and walleye. Lived in WI and MI most of my life. If you are in a shanty tent its cozy. If you want to do it as a trip I have a buddy that goes up to Mille Lacs in MN you rent a shanty that's big enough to sleep, eat and FISH in!!!!! Six guy stay there for a week. Fishing holes in the floor with reels attached to the wall!!! Pretty cool deal.

Sounds like a blast...I’ve gotten soft in my old age though, I’d want a shower after 2-3 days max.

One of the most enjoyable times you can have in the outdoors!!! I haven’t done it in Kentucky but kept some of my gear so I can if conditions allow.
