Took advantage of my employee discount one last time..... Got one of those discharge targets for $10. Got a nice crossbow case, buddy heater, some apple wood smoking chips, several chatterbaits, two more Lew's reels, and another St. Croix rod. lol. Saved over $200 from retail....
clerk rang up my goodies at $542. I said, "I'm an employee. That should ring up crew." "Yeah, that expired back on Feb 19". "Uh, that's today. It expires at midnight. Today is my last day." "Oh. Manager please."..... Manager override to $340.... I'm going to miss that.....
I went to a crossbow this year and love the thing. The only complaint I have is that I do find it to be a bit awkward in the tree or blind. Not completely used to it yet but I’ll get there... Tagged 2 deer with it this year so I’m pleased. I went the cheap route because I wasn’t really sure I would like it- bought a centerpoint 375 from Cabelas on sale for like $229. Bought some pile driver bolts and mechanical muzzy blades. They leave a massive exit wound. Neither of the deer I killed this year went more than 30 yards. I am already looking forward to next fall and I’m sure I’ll eventually invest in a really nice one.
Shot the new xbow last weekend. Just shot 8 times at 20 yards. Just sat in a chair with my elbows resting on my knees. It was shooting about 1" right. It's super fast! I guess they are all loud. My new carbon arrows came in, so I'll shoot them and dial it in. The scope has three POA marks, so I need to figure out where they fall with the carbon bolts. I'd expect little, if any difference from 20 to 30. I may set the top crosshair at 30. I ordered some 100 grain Slick Trick stainless steel broadheads. The manual suggested lubing the rail after 10 shots. Is this a good rule of thumb? It came with a little tube of oily lube. Do they make a more hunt-friendly lube for the rail, waxy maybe? This is a whole new world for me.
Yes they make it in tubes like “chapstick”. You can put a little on the string but that rail is the main thing. About 10 shots sounds right but only a little. Doesn’t take much. I always set my main crosshairs on 20 and there’s hardly any difference from 10-30. Setting it on 30 would be fine. Sounds like you’re ready. A nice case is worth paying for if you haven’t already got one. Have fun!
Going to in-laws for Easter dinner tomorrow. Haven't been out there since the pandemic hit. Taking the new toy to shoot a little. My carbon bolts with the lighted nocks came in. I'm going to shoot on out to 60-80 yards. I was reading up on the scope that came with it. It has lighted reticles, and 5 marks... When we shot last weekend, I only noticed three marks, and had no idea it was battery operated. lol. This will be fun.
They sent instructions for a scope I don’t have. Probably send same booklet with all bows. I shot out to 60. It’s a tack driver. Had to move poa left about 10 clicks to dial it in. Wicked fast. I’m toting it in turkey season.
I’ve killed one turkey with mine but I was deer hunting and it gave me a shot. I hope you get one. If I had plenty of turkeys and lots of opportunities, I’d definitely hunt with mine. I’m just happy to get a turkey every 2-3 seasons! LOL.
Broadheads and lighted nocks installed... I'm ready for the opener. Daddy and I will be in a blind opening morning.
