There's a boat out of L'ville that goes down to Kenlake SP for eagle tours each winter, I guess they planned to bring it back up to L'ville next weekend. On the news, they said it looks like it might have to go a different route and come up Barkley. How does a boat get from Kentucky Lake to Barkley when you can't get to the canal? As big as it is, I can't see it getting trailered.

The CQ Princess is alive and well on the lake. As is all commercial traffic so it is fine. No need now.

Glad to see that no one was killed.

I wonder if the cops did a drug test on the pilot. Somebody had to be smoking something.

Per Coast Guard regulation. Anytime there is an accident on a commercial vessel involving property damage or a marine casulity, a drug and alcohol test is reguired. Supplies are required to be kept on board for such. They are usually tested both onboard and at a private facality.

Is this the bridge that you take across the lake from Ky Damn Village over to Grand Rivers (site of Pattis Restaurant)? I have been to the area a few times and stayed in the lodge but I just wanted to make sure I have the correct location. Here is a picture with bridge inspectors climbing over the beams, etc.
Rumor has it that the boat pilot was staring at a mountain lion perched on one of the beams. No wonder you never see them when they make their migration.Instead of crossing bodies of water by way of the pavement and risking getting hit by a vehicle they cross the bridges by climbing the steel beam structures as often as possible.

Wrong bridge. Eggners Ferry Bridge is about 20 miles south of the dam. Hwys 68 and 80 cross it. It is between Kenlake State Park and the west entrance to LBL.

Anyone know the specs on the bridge, specifically the distance between concrete bridge supports? There's a game the kids in middle school play that can design and test bridges. Have ya'll a fix in about an hour...

On a more serious note, I have faith in Corps of Engineers. Wonder if they can pop in replacement spans until total reconstruction is approved?

I don't think the Corp has any responsibilty for the bridge and would not be involved in any repair.

Still, I'd ask them to. I'm sure they got the parts and ingenuity to fix it quick. Surely, FEMA, Homey-land security or some entity can come up with something better than the state or whatever is in charge. Heck, I'd never even thought of bridges as being federal, state or department thingies. LOL

I saw a report that some curves or waves have appeared in some of the remaining structure so not sure a repair is even being considered at this point since that may have indicated some movement of the remaining standing structure. They also said that would make it more difficult to line up in case of a repair attempt.

For some reason I want to say it was a 320 foot span but it sure doesnt look to be that far from the picture I posted. However some of the previously posted pictures in this thread taken from another angle show it to be a fairly wide distance.

I think the missing span is 332 feet. I saw the news conference Friday and they brought up that the military has no means of spanning much more than 200 feet with current technology. If the western most pier on the east side of the missing span is damaged like they think, I figure we will be looking at some sort of ferry until the new bridge can be built.

you being serious? the bridge in Louisville has 100 times the traffic and has been down for over 5 months. crews working around the clock..the casino offered 1 mill to the contractor if they finish the job ahead of schedule. its still going to be March or April before its fixed. They werent even missin a huge section, just fixing cracks. i wouldnt expect to cross the lake by bridge in this area for a solid year, maybe 4 or 5 years.
