Hunting Out West

Hey guys, I'm still in graduate school, but starting to look for info about hunting out west. I've applied for points in Wyoming, but really want to look at other states too. Literally, any state you'd recommend would be great. I prefer over-the-counter tags so I don't have to wait on another point system, but I know those are few and far between. ANY advice on-- public areas, trespass fees, gear recommendations, apps, etc. would be MUCH APPRECIATED.

Colorado is your best opportunity for OTC tags. Arizona is a must for points. Look at Montana, Utah, Nevada. No point system in New Mexico or Idaho. Epic Outdoors, Hunting Fool plus others will do the applications for you for a fee. Cheapest elk tag is Texas.

You need a good sidekick to tag along and split costs with, plus pack duties and whatnot. Lucky for you I know such a guy.

Pretty sure Wyoming and Montana are the only states you can still get a pref point in this year. About $50 a piece
