Too hot,too cold,too windy,too rainy,too late,too early.so on and so on.hunt!!!
It's up to the hunter in the end. I don't like to sit and sweat waiting on a deer myself when I got plenty season and plenty time and deer to pick from. I can handle cold a lot better than heat, just fire up the buddy heater in the box blind and maybe even take a nap... Since the food bank stopped taking deer I have no reason to shoot them like I used to.
Not me. Velvet bucks don't do much for me. Hunting the rut is my favorite thing in the world.
Not me. I wont start till mid October when I get back from Canada duck hunt. Velvet Bucks don't turn me on at all. Drather have them shinned up velvet off. Plus I like the cooler weather.
Got one works great in blinds, and treestands as long as there isn't a breeze
I hunted almost every single day of the season for the last 6 years I have killed deer in Sept,Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan.
If there is a breeze, skeeters not a problem......
I'm always there opening morning. love it!! Took my only velvet 11:30 am on opening morning.
Don't care for velvet and I hate the heat. So that's a no for me.
I hope i get a doe two minutes into the first hunt lol. My freezer has zero venison left.
I'll be hunting. I look forward to opening day as much as any other time of the season. The weather will determine what Im hunting for though. If its in the 90s i'll be strictly hunting for a velvet wallhanger, If it is in the 60s like it was in 2017 I wouldn't mind some meat for the freezer in that temperature. I almost always hunt evenings only during early season unless I have had some good morning movement on trail cameras simply because most places I hunt the deer will be there when I show up of the mornings and just end up pressuring them without a good chance of killing anything.
Interesting how many on here don't care for velvet rack (I am one)
And yet people flock here from all over the country at a chance at one. LoL
They pay big $$ with KY outfitters tip top the odds in their favor. I have a couple friends who are outfitters and their velvet hunts are always booked.
Yep. Afternoons in the early season.
We all only get so many trips around the sun. I’m not going to stop hunting because I’m sweating. Passed a great buck I should have shot 3rd day of the season last year.
Another issue at least in my area is deer are in the fields and plots AM , There is next to zero chance of getting in the stand without spooking deer..
Afternoons more often then not you can get on stand and about guarantee deer will show right before dark.. now getting out of the stand without spooking deer is another story..
Same here. Don't care about velvet bucks and I don't like cutting up any deer in 80+ degree weather.
