nowadays 2-3. When my daughters lived here it was 5-6.
I normally take at least one Deer per year, but will harvest two if the population density will allow. I am fairly selective on my Deer harvest though, bagging one Doe along with a Buck with at least 6-points. Years ago, I would harvest four Deer/year.
We're down to just 1 or 2 a year between us (unless we take one for our son or the sportsman's club's game dinner). We cut them into steaks, stir fry/fajita/stew meat, keep a couple roasts that we'll use later to make venison jalapeno poppers, and grind the rest to use in everything from spaghetti to chili to snack sticks to summer sausage. Except for an occasional ribeye, we ONLY use venison for our red meat. Can't stand beef hamburger these days & the only good beef roast to me is a brisket that's been perfectly smoked (and preferably cut into burnt ends beforehand).
I take one a year for myself. I have not killed a deer the last three years....didnt see a buck I liked.
2 seems like a sweet spot for me the last few years.
Between me and the boy..2-3, sometimes 4. We do a few roast..backstraps, tenderloins, and heart. Everything else goes for grind. We go thru ALOT of jerky. Thats the only way the ol lady will eat deer meat. I would say we could probably eat 4 a year just in jerky.
We tend to average putting up about 5 every year. Summertime is hard on the freezer supply. We tend to grill or eat deer about 3-4 times a week through the summer months. I normally kill 2-5 deer then whatever the kids throw in and we never turn one down from a couple friends that hunt and take care of their kills. I won’t take one from someone that doesn’t take care of the deer in the field. I have been known to pick up a fresh roadkill that hasn’t been mangled. I will top off the freezer in January with a Texas hog hunt.
It varies year to year for us as far as does. I know I’m averaging shooting 1 buck every 3 years or so. Tag soup has become the norm.
3-4 for us. Always happy to try to get a couple for folks that want them, but that hasn't always worked out.
My goal is usually one buck in Ky and one in Ohio. Trophy hunt and between my dad and I hunting two states we have plenty meat and give most of it away. I have killed a doe or two here and there for other people.
We all take 2, usually a buck and a doe. None of us have the freezer space for more.
I've never taken more than one.
Here in pa I usually get 4 and my daughter 2 and wife gets one normally. We are current out of deer meat now except for maybe twenty pounds of burger.
I might add i won't shoot any doe until my buck tag is filled, the doe i kill may be the one that would bring my buck in.
