I am and always will be a ul fan,but I will give uk the credit they deserve in makein a good run to come back from 20 down and get back in the game last night. I don't care for caliper as a coach,he is just a great recruiter as mentioned above. What is the use of being the top recruiter in the nation if you can't keep the guys around for more than one season so they can get some experience. I would rather be a mid level recruiter and keep and build the guys talents and exploit there experience instead of being the top recruiter and have all the one and donnas with no experience on the team,to me the experience is what handles the presure situations and keeps a team from getting 20 down.

C'mon, Max. I know you REALLY love UK and all, but it's not like UK's been crushing people in the 21st century.

It's easy to play the "We've always got that bullseye on our back" card in Kentucky or the SEC, and you might be right in terms of UofL have an inferiority complex about UK, but let's get real.

If you polled people across the nation, they'd all say that playing/beating UNC, KU or even Duke is a bigger deal than playing/beating UK over the last 10 years. Most of the guys playing today were in diapers the last time UK was a dominant program..

Even though they haven't even come close to having the best program over the last 10 years, I'd bet that opposing players would overwhelmingly say that they'd rather beat Duke than UK. Good night, Duke hasn't played UK in 12 years and the UK fans on this forum bad mouth Duke as much as UofL.

I disagree..... Name a game this year that UNC played more inspired than they did against UK?

. However, unlike a large percentage of UK fans, they are only fans when the program is winning and not so when they are losing. Example the Billy G era and latter part of Tubby Smith era after the Rick Pitino recruits had graduated.

Yeah, Alabama will win and they will lose. However, I will still be a fan no matter how well they are doing and no matter who the coach is. I've been a fan as long as I can remember and it hasn't changed, even when they are stinking it up. I can't say the same for some of the so called UK fans.

Thats FALSE. UK had just as high an attendance at those times. Just because they wanted Billy G and Tubby gone, doesnt mean they dont support the program. Its no different with Bama football, they did the same with Curry and Shula. You cant blame fans for wanting coaches gone, who ran the program down.

LOL. I know you will find this hard to believe, but I'm a UK basketball fan. You wouldn't think that by the way I talk about Calipari, but it's true. I don't like the man and I think he plays 2nd fiddle to a lot of coaches in the NCAA right now including Rick Pitino. You will never get some of the other members to believe I'm a UK basketball fan though. They think I'm a Louisville fan just because I'm a fan of Pitino. The only time I ever watch a basketball game is when UK is on. Don't believe me, you can ask the better half. But anywho. Have at it boys...

You really think Pitino is a better coach than Cal? In the 90's yes I believe you are right, but now Lord no! That may be the dumbest post I've ever heard. Whats funny to me is that when they win I've never seen you say anything bad about the coach. But when they lose all heck breaks loose. Just like every other bandwagoner. "Get rid of the coach, he sucks, he can't win....blah" You can say what you want but the coach can't make a jump shot, a 3pter, a dunk, a rebound, an assist, a block, ect. At some point its the players responsibility to play to their potential which they didn't. The coaches job is to have the team prepared and ready to play, then during the game make adjustments. You can have Mike Shitchegivitch coaching but if your team consists of 2nd graders in a high school state tournament your going to loose.

If everyone thought Calipari's cussing of Jones was what a coach needs to do in order to get the point across to players, I wonder why the Teflon John is apologizing for it if there was nothing wrong with it? I'd say Mr. Perfect is taking some heat over it and he is trying to do the old CYA. However in this case he is CHA.

I only fault him for apoligizing.....Jones does play selfish to much......I hear and see Cal yell it at him every homegame.....and many fans say the same thing.......I watched him fail to make one more pass for easy 2 many times in the LSU game........he will grow out of it after he gets tired of getting a new hind end tore enough....I have a 18 year old and a 14 year old I can relate......sometimes flipping out is the only way to get a young man to understand....

What Cal can get out of freshmen in one season is phenomenal to say the least........weather or not it can bring number 8 home remains to be seen......I think next season will be a good run.

I agree 100%. Some 18-19 year olds just need to be worked that way while others only need one time. It's human nature, part of growing up.

buck Nasty brother I hate to tell you that there is no such thing as a fair weather fan in Ky. Ky in my opinion has the most loyal fan base in the country in any sport period. Every game Ky plays anywhere will be full of Ky fans doesn't mater if there having a good season or not. Now I know you are going to tell me about Alabamas football fans but I know several people from Alabama living in Ky and they will tell you they have never seen a fan base like Kentuky basketball. Now that's out of the way I think Calipari should have kept on cussing. if I had been Kentuckys coach we wouldn't have went in a t half time we would have just stayed out on the court and ran wind sprints the whole twenty minute while I was cussing at them. I know most of you are saying yeah right well I actually had a coach in high school do this during the half time of a basketball game. We were all tired after half time but we never slacked up the second half and won that game. Now I know high school isn't like UK but it motivated us and his cussing motivated us even more. Love Uk basketball but they need to find some heart. Great game by the way Alabama you really took it to my Wildcats.

Would we even be having this discussion if UK had won the game? Had they scored 3 more points and pulled off the comeback from 20 down we would be talking about how Cal's verbal abuse to a player was effective and was the reason they won. I am not a UK fan (Go CARDS!!), but I do watch them when I can. I have my own opinion of Calipari and won't go into that because it is just that, an opinion. But I will say that I dropping the F-bomb to a player multiple times on national TV was not the best thing to do whether you win or lose. Remember these are KIDS out there playing ball and they will make mistakes. I agree that sometimes being hard nosed it what it takes, but that was uncalled for. As far as Vargas goes, maybe Cal didn't do as good a job recruiting as everyone thinks. I expect to see him transfer somewhere next year. Terrance Jones is a great player. I would love to have a kid like that on my team. I think there is a ton of potential there not being used. UK wins most of its games by having the most talented players on the floor. Last night Alabama just out hustled them and played smarter for most of the game.

You give Rick Pitino the talent and skill level John Calipari had on the floor last season and you would be hanging another banner in the rafters. It's as simple as that.

Now that arguement is absolutely terrible! If Pitino would get off his back in the bars and recruit some kids who can play then he might have had a talented team! Pitino WAS a great coach... in the 90s! If he is such a great coach still and really has the drive to win then maybe he should think about getting some ballplayers on the roster instead of having "bridge years" every year.

I'll say this. If UK wants to win another championship, they had better get them some players on the roster whom are going to stay and play instead of bolting after the first season. I hope you guys don't think that John Wall and Demarcus Cousins actually played at Kentucky last year because of the program's rich tradition. If the rule to have to play one year of college ball wasn't in place, those guys would have never set foot on a college floor. I'm afraid with the current situation, Kentucky basketball has traded it's tradition rich program for the fast lane to the NBA.

As some member said they never see me make reference to Calipari when he wins. When he wins, it's usually because the talent level is so lopsided, he don't have to coach. Auburn couldn't win 10 straight at a pick up game down at the local park and LSU wasn't much better didn't look like. When Calipari's weakness shows is when he is in the tight ballgames and the pressure mounts.

The Alabama loss isn't the only time he has shown that. Over time it has been shown Calipari finds it hard to win big games. Year in and year out he has had the best group of players in the country and he still can't win the big one.

Yeah, I know some of them WE people to. I always ask them where they where at because I didn't see them on the bench anywhere. May have been filling up squirt bottles or something.
